Facebook advertising a few must know terminology

Facebook advertising terminology is confusing. Learning a few essential words associated with Facebook advertising will help someone to set the objective of an Ad campaign.

Facebook Ad: It is an Ad created by a business on Facebook. This Ad appears in News Feed on desktop, News Feed on mobile, in the right column of Facebook on desktop.

Ad Format: Facebook Ad can be of the following types:

  • Image
  • Video
  • Carousel
  • Canvas
  • Slideshow

Impressions: The number of times your Ads were on screen. Impressions is a common metric used by the online digital marketing industry.

How it is calculated: An impression is counted as the number of times an instance of ad is on screen for the first time. For example, if an ad is on screen and someone scrolls down and then scrolls back up to the same ad, that counts as 1 impression. If an ad is on screen for someone on two different times in a day, that counts as 2 impressions. In case of video, impression counted the same way as an image. But video need not start playing to be counted as 1 impression.
